UrÃas has a 12-game on-base streak. He also has a sore right upper leg.
Austin Hays, today’s cleanup hitter and right fielder, leads the Orioles with 34 RBIs since the All-Star break and has hit seven homers with 16 RBIs in 15 games this month. He’s totaled 15 homers in 69 career games in September, compared to 15 over 121 games in the other months combined.
Cedric Mullins is batting .364 (47-for-129) in the first inning this season and has the most hits in the majors.
Rookie left-hander Zac Lowther has a 9.92 ERA and 1.776 WHIP in seven games (three starts). He’s averaging 11 hits and five walks per nine innings.
Lowther’s first start was May 8 against the Red Sox at Camden Yards, when he allowed seven runs and seven hits in 2 1/3 innings. Michael Chavis hit a two-run homer in the second.
Right-hander Nick Pivetta is 9-7 with a 4.55 ERA and 1.318 WHIP in 27 starts and he’s averaging four walks and 10 strikeouts per nine innings. He’s made three starts against the Orioles this summer, most recently on Aug. 13 in Boston, with one run, three hits and eight strikeouts in six innings. Martin homered for the only run.
Pivetta also started twice against the Orioles in Baltimore and allowed six runs and 10 hits in 12 innings. Mullins and Maikel Franco homered.
Bobby Dalbec homered last night and has hit five in his last eight games and 12 in 28.
Former Orioles shortstop José Iglesias is batting .435 (10-for-23) with five RBIs since joining the Red Sox.
The Orioles have 15 games left and need one win to guarantee that they won’t tie the franchise record of 115 losses set in 2018. They’re 4-10 against the Red Sox this summer.
The Red Sox are 35-18 in their last 53 home games. They’re averaging 7.7 runs in their last 18 games at Fenway Park.
Boston also has registered a 1.88 ERA in its last eight games. The bullpen has surrendered two runs in 30 1/3 innings.
