Jeremy Guthrie turned in his third consecutive quality start, but he has no shot at winning this game.
The offense bailed on him again, finding it impossible to catch up to Brad Mills’ mid-80s heater and sweeping curveball.
Looked like slop to me, but what do I know?

The Orioles managed only two hits in seven innings – Brian Roberts’ leadoff single in the first and Jake Fox’s two-out single in the seventh. They were impatient early on, making it easy for Mills, and stranded three runners in the last two innings.
Luke Scott grounded out with two on and two out in the sixth – Mills hit Miguel Tejada and walked Nick Markakis – and Corey Patterson popped up to end the seventh.
Guthrie is charged with an unearned run and six hits over seven innings. And he stands to be the loser.
Ridiculous.
Of the six hits allowed by Guthrie, one ball glanced off Adam Jones’ glove as he leaped at the fence, and another shot past Tejada as he tumbled backward at third base.
In his last three starts, Guthrie has permitted three earned runs, walked two and struck out 15 in 20 2/3 innings.
He’s the staff ace, and he should have been the winner tonight.
Instant update: The Jays scored four runs off the Orioles’ bullpen with two outs in the eighth, the last three on Lyle Overbay’s homer off Will Ohman.
Bring on the Royals.
