Berken was making his first appearance since July 24, and his second since July 21, as interim manager Juan Samuel tries to ease up on him. In case you missed it, Miguel Tejada is batting fourth and playing shortstop tonight for the Padres. He walked in his first at-bat.

Pitcher Wynn Pelzer, acquired by the Orioles in the Tejada trade, gave up a bases-empty home run and two hits in two innings tonight with Double-A Bowie, with no walks and three strikeouts. He’s credited with a “hold” in the Baysox’s 8-5 victory over New Britain.
