The Orioles selected the contract of left-hander Nick Vespi from Triple-A Norfolk this afternoon and designated lefty Logan Allen for assignment.
Vespi, who’s wearing No. 79, brings a 0.00 ERA to Camden Yards while waiting to make his major league debut. The 18th round draft pick in 2015 was charged with three unearned runs and six hits in 14 1/3 innings, with three walks and 21 strikeouts.
Allen was claimed off waivers from the Guardians on May 5 and made three appearances, allowing two runs and three hits with two walks in 1 2/3 innings.
Today’s moves are the latest to impact the bullpen. Paul Fry was designated for assignment on Saturday. Denyi Reyes has his contract selected on Thursday, made his major league debut with two scoreless innings in Detroit and was optioned.
Meanwhile, the Orioles resume their four-game series with the Yankees tonight. Neither team has posted its lineup.
Anthony Santander has hit three home runs in his last four games.
Spenser Watkins has posted a 5.19 ERA and 1.577 WHIP in six starts. He’s allowed 10 runs and 15 hits in the last two over 8 1/3 innings.
The Orioles have lost four games in a row.
Jameson Taillon has a 2.93 ERA and 1.174 WHIP in six starts. He’s walked only three batters in 30 2/3 innings.
Taillon faced the Orioles on April 28 in the Bronx and allowed two runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.
Yankees starters have allowed three earned runs or fewer in 33 of 35 starts.
Josh Donaldson has reached base in each of his last 22 games.
The Yankees are 19-3 in their last 22 games. This is the sixth time in franchise history that they’ve won 26 of their first 35 games.
Dean Kremer will begin his injury rehab assignment Wednesday night at Double-A Bowie. Kremer strained his oblique while warming in the bullpen during the third game of the season at Tropicana Field.
Infielder Shed Long Jr.’s rehab assignment was transferred to High-A Aberdeen and he started at second base today.
Pitcher Rico Garcia has moved up Bowie to Triple-A Norfolk.
