Alberto Callaspo’s double is the only hit off Orioles starter Jake Arrieta, and Markakis almost made a sensational diving grab. He laid out for the ball, but it deflected off his glove.
Brian Roberts was charged with an error on Erick Aybar’s chopper, though the play easily could have been scored a hit.
Update: Arrieta keeps impressing. Torii Hunter and Hideki Matsui lead off the seventh with back-to-back singles, but Arrieta induced a double-play grounder from Alberto Callaspo. Howie Kendrick flied to right, and the shutout remained.
The Orioles increased their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the seventh on Brian Roberts’ RBI double. They also drove Haren from the game.
Arrieta has thrown 88 pitches through the seventh. The bullpen is quiet.
Update II: Markakis greeted reliever Kevin Jepsen with a run-scoring single. Orioles 4, Angels 0.
