Bergesen just struck out two batters in the eighth inning, and the Indians seemed dazed as he delivered another breaking ball. All they can do is check their swings and hope for a reprieve from the first or third base umpires.

He’s allowed one run and one hit, and his pitch count stands at a modest 82. He’s barreling towards a complete-game victory – and the eighth quality start in nine games from the Orioles’ rotation since Buck Showalter took over as manager.

Brian Roberts has three hits, including a home run, and he’s reminded us of his importance at the top of the order.

Remember the “Why bother?” debate? The Orioles could have shut him down after his most recent setback, but I like this arrangement better.

I also like that Josh Bell has three hits after working overtime with hitting coach Terry Crowley. Bell needs to make an impression and eliminate “third base” from the Orioles’ shopping list this winter.

Update: Bergesen got his first win since May 12 by holding the Indians to one run and two hits. Last night, the Orioles bashed the Indians into submission. Tonight, it was the sleeper hold from Bergesen.

Down on the farm, Lou Montanez is 1-for-3 with a run scored as Double-A Bowie’s designated hitter. Ryan Adams hit his 11th home run, and Greg Miclat has three doubles.
