NEW YORK – Orioles infielder Ramón Urías is beginning his injury rehab assignment Wednesday night at High-A Aberdeen.
Urías is serving as the designated hitter, according to Orioles manager Brandon Hyde.
The IronBirds are hosting a seven-game series against Jersey Shore, which includes Wednesday’s doubleheader that resulted from an April 22 postponement.
Urías is on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain. He hasn’t played since limping off the field following a ninth-inning single on May 8.
Hyde didn’t specify how many days Urías would spend at Aberdeen. Urías has targeted a weekend return to the Orioles, when they host the Rangers.
Urías is batting .278/.375/.381 in 30 games. He’s made 17 starts at third base, nine at second and one at first.
Reliever Dillon Tate is pitching again tonight for Triple-A Norfolk in Memphis.
This will be Tate’s fifth appearance with the Tides and the 10th on his rehab assignment. He’s posted a 16.43 ERA in 7 2/3 innings.
Tate’s rehab assignment runs through Wednesday and the Orioles must reinstate him from the injured list and put him on the active roster or option him. He has two minor league options remaining.
Kyle Bradish is seeking his first career win against an American League East opponent. He’s 0-8 with a 7.91 ERA in 16 starts.
“He’s got to have that sinker going to the right and he’s got to have that cutter going to keep guys off balance,” Hyde said. “He’s shown he can do that in the past. Hoping he can do it tonight.”
The Orioles scored five runs in the top of the 11th inning Sunday to defeat the Blue Jays 8-3 and complete the sweep. Per the Elias Sports Bureau, it marked the first time they tallied five runs or more in a single extra inning since scoring six in the 11th on July 7, 2014 in D.C.
They lead the majors with 18 comeback wins this season.
Two of Cedric Mullins’ five hits Sunday came in extra innings, making him the first Orioles player to do it since Chris Davis and Stevie Wilkerson both did in the 15th on Sept. 23, 2019 in Toronto.
