Orioles reliever Jim Johnson gave up a solo home run tonight to Richmond’s Thomas Neal in his latest injury-rehab inning at Double-A Bowie. He threw 20 pitches, 12 for strikes.
Johnson struck out a batter to end the inning. I’m told that his fastball sat in the 93-94 mph range.
Johnson also threw his slider, changeup and curveball tonight.
So what’s next?
The Orioles want him to work out the next two days and pitch again on Tuesday and Wednesday. Manager Buck Showalter raced from Camden Yards to Prince George’s Stadium to watch Johnson pitch. John Stockstill, director of minor league operations, also attended the game.
Center fielder Xavier Avery went 3-for-5 with four RBIs. He’s batting .302 since moving up from Single-A Frederick.
Great news from Triple-A Norfolk: Chris Tillman shut out Durham on two hits over seven innings, with two walks and eight strikeouts. But Kam Mickolio gave up a run in a 1-0 loss.
Single-A Frederick’s Billy Rowell went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and his 26th error. Luis Noel gave up a run and three hits in six innings.
