Pitcher Daniel Klein, the Orioles’ third-round pick out of UCLA, logged a perfect seventh inning tonight for short-season Single-A Aberdeen. He recorded two outs on ground balls and one on a fly ball.
The Orioles view him as a starter, but they’ll ease him into his professional career by having him come out of the bullpen.

Danny Figueroa was listed as the center fielder, but Xavier Avery pinch-hit for him before his first at-bat. L.J. Hoes was listed as the designated hitter, but Joel Guzman pinch-hit for him and served as the designated hitter.
Meanwhile, Hoes went 1-for-5 with a double at Single-A Frederick, and also committed his 11th error.
Curious, to say the least.
Update: I believe this was the resumption of a suspended game, which also would explain why Pedro Viola is listed as pitching one inning in the box score. It’s all making sense to me now. Give me time and I’ll figure it out.
Buck Britton went 3-for-3 with a triple and home run for the Keys, and Ronnie Welty belted his 15th homer and drove in four runs.
