We’ve mentioned it a few times in this space and the Orioles made it official this afternoon.
Top draft pick Manny Machado is heading for Aberdeen.
He will work out with the IronBirds on Sunday, but will not dress for that game but is expected to be in the starting lineup Monday against Vermont at 7:05 p.m.
I’m told he is expected to start at shortstop and play six innings in the game that night.

Machado went 0 for 3 today in his first pro game for the Gulf Coast League Orioles and is expected to DH in the GCL teams last game on Saturday before heading north to Aberdeen.
In addition to Machado, 2009 second-round pick Mychal Givens and 2010 fifth-round pick Connor Narron are expected to join the IronBirds on Sunday.
Givens has missed much of 2009 after having surgery on his left thumb. In seven games with the Delmarva Shorebirds, Givens batted .222 with four RBI and two runs scored. Narron, son of former big league catcher and manager Jerry Narron, made his pro debut with the GCL Orioles. In 10 games, the infielder hit .226 with four runs batted in.
