Brad Bergesen gained some satisfaction from working into the sixth inning tonight, but it was a small victory – and one that didn’t count in the standings or on his record.
The five-run second inning was a killer.
“It is what it is and you’ve got to put it behind you and go from there,” he said. “I was able to do so tonight and chew up some more innings, not put that stress on the bullpen. That was really the positive for me tonight.”

The Red Sox kept falling behind in the count and still got their hits.
“Yeah, I was getting ahead of guys and just not executing or not making the right pitch. Or not bearing the slider when I need to. And just making them too good to hit,” he said.
“The first inning, you have somewhat of a quick inning, get the double-play ball, and you try to roll from there. I think I walked a total of five guys, one intentional guy. I think that might be the first time I’ve walked that many guys, so I was a little erratic tonight, but it’s behind me now and you’ve just got to look forward to the next start.”
Down on the farm, Michael Aubrey homered twice tonight, including a three-run shot in the bottom of the 13th inning that gave Triple-A Norfolk a 4-1 victory over Charlotte. Aubrey has 21 homers, making him the first Tides player to reach the 20-HR mark since Victor Diaz (24) in 2004.
