Still no Adam Jones, who continues to receive treatment on his sore upper back. He’s also allowing the cortisone injection that he received Thursday night to work its magic.
Head athletic trainer Richie Bancells is upbeat about the progress that Jones has made, according to manager Buck Showalter, but don’t look for the center fielder in tomorrow’s lineup. He probably won’t be there.

Head athletic trainer Richie Bancells is upbeat about the progress that Jones has made, according to manager Buck Showalter, but don’t look for the center fielder in tomorrow’s lineup. He probably won’t be there.
“He’s a little better today, but I don’t think him playing is imminent,” Showalter said. “I think it might be one of those things where, not that we’re being cautious, but I don’t look for him to be a player today or tomorrow.”
Jones was hopeful that he’d return during this series.
“I’ll leave that open,” Showalter said. “I know, talking to Richie, we’re excited about the progress he’s making and there’s always that possibility. I’m not going to take that carrot away from him. I’ve seen it come quickly, but I’m not looking at it like there’s a sense that we’re going to have him back real quick. I’m hoping to get surprised by it tomorrow or Monday.”
Jones gets antsy when he doesn’t play. It’s not pleasant to be around him in the dugout.
“It’s killing him not being out there,” Showalter said. “He’s not a real good spectator. He moves around a lot on the bench. You’ve got to watch him. He’s in and out, back and forth, but he’s in the game. I’ve asked him a couple questions. ‘Are you seeing what I’m seeing?’ I won’t tell you what, but he’s locked in.”
