Drake’s ERA in the first inning this year was 8.14. Before this outing.
He walked five in just two-thirds of an inning.
Update: McCurry walked his first batter to load the bases again and it got worse. Tyler Townsend booted a grounder at first which should have ended the inning and two more runs scored. That’s an 8-0 Potomac lead before Frederick comes to bat.
Drake’s line: 2/3IP, 3H, 8R, 6ER, 5BB, OK, 2 HR’s.
In the first, Potomac scored eight runs on three hits, six walks, two homers and an error. The two Keys pitchers combined to throw 52 pitches.
The Keys have some work to do.
Update two: They got some work done. Frederick scored seven runs in the last of the first and now trails 8-7. Had to see it to believe it.
Catcher Brian Ward, batting ninth, just hit a Grand Slam and Frederick, which came to bat down 8-0 now trails 8-7.
Earlier, Billy Rowell and L.J Hoes singled in runs and another scored on a bases-loaded wild pitch.
The score after a 44-minute first inning is Potomac 8, Frederick 7.
The first inning tally: Teams combined for 15 runs, seven hits, two Grand Slams, three total homers, eight walks, one hit batter and one error.
That was not a misprint.
It’s tied up: An RBI groundout by L.J. Hoes has tied this game, 8-8, after two innings. Ronnie Welty reached on an error with one out, went to third on Billy Rowell’s double and scored on the groundout. From 8-0 to 8-8. Just seven innings to go in Frederick.
