MINNEAPOLIS – The Orioles recalled reliever Colin Selby this morning and designated left-hander Tucker Davidson for assignment after he tossed 4 2/3 scoreless innings last night.
Selby is another fresh arm for the bullpen, with manager Brandon Hyde prepping his other relievers for availability in Game 1 of Tuesday’s Wild Card game.
Selby appeared in two games with the Orioles in August and didn’t allow a run or hit in three innings. He struck out four batters.
The Orioles haven’t committed to their Game 2 starter.
Albert Suárez gets today’s start, with uncertainty over how long he’ll pitch. Hyde was non-committal yesterday about possibly shortening Suárez.
More of the regulars are in today’s lineup. Gunnar Henderson is leading off, Jordan Westburg is playing second base, Colton Cowser is in left field and batting cleanup, Ryan O’Hearn is in right field, Cedric Mullins is in center and Ramón Urías is starting at third base. James McCann is catching, with Adley Rutschman serving as designated hitter.
Anthony Santander is on the bench.
Jackson Holliday is the youngest Orioles player to reach base five times. He’s the youngest in the majors since Juan Soto in 2019.
O’Hearn’s 15 home runs are a career high. He’s 7-for-20 with four homers this year in five games against the Twins.
Henderson is batting .420 when ahead in the count this season.
The Orioles are 4-1 on their final road trip and have a nine-game winning streak against the Twins.
Twins right-hander Bailey Ober is 12-8 with a 3.94 ERA and 1.002 WHIP in 30 starts. He’s averaging 9.7 strikeouts per nine innings.
Ober has made two career start against the Orioles and allowed only one run in 13 innings.
Santander is 2-for-5 with a double against Ober.
