Another Jake Arrieta update: The rookie is scheduled to undergo surgery on Wednesday to remove a bone spur from his right elbow. Team physician Dr. Andrew Cosgarea will handle the surgery.
Arrieta wants to remain with the team, though he might not travel.

Team physician Dr. Andrew Cosgarea will handle the surgery.
Arrieta wants to remain with the team, though he might not travel.
“I think it’s going to be for the best,” Arrieta said. “I’ve talked to the doctors and trainers and we decided I’m going to go ahead and get that bone spur taken out. Probably going to do it Wednesday, just get it over and done with quickly. They said the rehab’s like a week or two weeks at the most, just to get some range of motion back.
“I’m not really sure how I feel yet. Knowing it’s not a very serious type of surgery makes me feel a little bit better. I guess everyone’s always cautious going into any type of surgery, I’ve never had anything done. I kind of feel that way, but it’s going to be for the best.
“They’re going to monitor everything as far as flexibility goes and I’m not going to miss any time, which is good. Everything’s going to roll over into the off-season and they said by the beginning of October, mid-October, you’ll be fine, just as long as everything heals up and doesn’t get infected. That’s their only concern.”
Arrieta said he probably would have avoided the surgery if he hadn’t felt some tightness in his right triceps related to the spur.
“I think it’s beneficial for the team and for myself to have it done now, so I wouldn’t miss any time going into next season,” he said. “There was a risk where if I don’t have it done, going into camp I’m fine and maybe in May or June it starts to act up a little bit and then I’d have to have something done. It’s the best route to go, to have it done now so I don’t miss any time.”
