Guthrie gave up two runs and two hits in the opening inning.

“That more than anything, probably set the tone. If I get out of that, you’re rocking and rolling and going forward from there.

Guthrie gave up two runs and two hits in the opening inning.

“My command wasn’t great, that was evident from the first pitch on. I didn’t throw the ball very often where I was trying to. My best commanded pitch was the curveball, ironically, the one that I typically throw the least.

“I didn’t feel good out there. I was a little bit out of whack, out of synch. But, there are no excuses. I wasn’t feeling as well as I hoped to going out there today.”

Guthrie hit Derek Jeter with the game’s first pitch which had the sellout crowd of 48,775 buzzing.

“Just trying to go inside. Derek knows I’m going to throw the ball in there all day long, that’s the way I approach it. I guess it was a good indicator. When I tried to throw pitches away later in the game, they went inside and when I tried to throw that one inside, it went way inside. Just a matter of not having good command tonight.”

Guthrie gave up six runs and seven hits over five innings, ending a streak of 11 consecutive starts of six innings or more. He falls to 10-14, 3.92.

O’s starters had allowed just 3 ER over the last six games combined before tonight.

“They’ve got a tough lineup and anybody can beat you. The last game I pitched in New York, I think I got Cano out four times and Nick Swisher went four for four. Tonight, I got Swisher out three times and Robinson hits the ball hard three times.

“Anybody can beat you. Alex did it to us last night. If it’s not one guy, it’s someone else and that’s what makes the lineup difficult.”

Guthrie, who lost for the first time since August 24 vs. the White Sox, is now 3-9, 5.66 in 14 career starts vs. the Yankees. He has lost seven straight starts to New York.

Chris Tillman (1-4, 6.32) faces Andy Pettitte (11-2, 2.88) Sunday at 1:35 and the Orioles need a win to avoid a three-game sweep.
