Pettitte is pitching in the Majors for the first time since he left a start on July 18 vs. the Mariners in the third inning with a strained left groin and later went on the DL. He recently pitched nine innings, allowing two runs over two rehab starts, with Double-A Trenton.
Pettitte has not lost and is 7-0, 3.02 over his last nine starts vs. the Birds dating to 9-19-07. He has lost just twice in his last 21 games vs. the O’s. He is expected to throw around 80 pitches today and the Yankees are hoping to get six innings out of him.
The game is tied 1-1 in the 3rd. Adam Jones came up with a bunt RBI single in the first and is now 6 for 16 vs. the Yankees lefty.
