In the first two games of the series at Fenway Park, O’s starters allowed just 2 ER over 11 innings in O’s victories. But Kevin Millwood gave up six runs tonight as Boston beat the Orioles, 6-1.
Boston avoided a three-game sweep, which would have been the O’s first at Fenway Park since June 10-12, 1994. The Orioles lost for just the fifth time in 17 games.

Boston avoided a three-game sweep, which would have been the O’s first at Fenway Park since June 10-12, 1994. The Orioles lost for just the fifth time in 17 games.
David Ortiz hit a three-run homer in the 4th and drove in four runs and Josh Reddick added a solo homer. Millwood, now 3-16, 5.29, gave up six runs and seven hits over five innings.
Millwood has allowed five runs or more 12 times this year.
Winning pitcher John Lackey gave up just one run and five hits over seven innings to end a four-game losing streak. Lackey is 13-11, 4.51.
Ty Wigginton plated the only Orioles run with a fourth-inning double. Wigginton has an RBI in five consecutive games with 7 RBI in that stretch. Luke Scott went 2 for 4 for the Orioles, who had six hits.
Troy Patton finally made his Orioles debut with 2/3 of an inning, giving up one hit and no runs. It was his first Major League outing since September 7, 2007.
After going 2-16 vs. Boston last year, the clubs split 18 meetings this season. The O’s nine wins is their most vs. the Red Sox since 2004 when they went 10-9 with their last winning season series vs. the Sox.
The Birds, now 29-18 under Buck Showalter, are 2-1 on this nine-game road trip which resumes Friday night at Toronto.
