Bergesen allowed six hits and five runs over five innings, throwing 89 pitches. He is now 8-11, 5.02. Tampa scored single runs in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th and added two more in the 5th.

Bergesen had allowed more than three runs just once over his last ten starts. He is 0-3, 10.13 in three starts on the season vs. the Rays, allowing 15 ER over 13 1/3 innings.

Carlos Pena and Carl Crawford hit long solo homers off Bergesen.

Meanwhile, Rays starter David Price pitched eight innings of six-hit ball to improve to 19-6, 2.73. He fanned eight without a walk and is now 4-0, 1.95 in five career starts vs. Baltimore.

The Orioles were 0 for 6 tonight with runners in scoring position vs. Price.

The Orioles, who lost for the fifth time in six games, still need one win to guarantee they will avoid the third 100-loss season in team history.

They are now 6-11 on the year vs. the Rays and 30-22 since Buck Showalter became manager.

In the series finale on Wednesday night, it’s Kevin Millwood (3-16, 5.29) vs. Jeff Niemann (11-7, 4.49).
