Winning pitcher Chris Tillman gave up just one run on three hits over seven innings, with two walks and a season-high seven strikeouts. He improved to 2-5, 5.87.

In two starts this year vs. the Tigers, he gave up just two runs on four hits over 13 2/3 innings. Detroit, down 9-1, got four in the eighth vs. Mark Hendrickson.

The O’s scored six runs in the fourth inning vs. Jeremy Bonderman, which matched their run total for the three-game series vs. Tampa. They added three runs in the fifth.

Adam Jones had a 4-RBI game with a three-run double in the fourth and RBI single an inning later. Jones went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles. Felix Pie went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI including a two-run triple. Craig Tatum had a two-run double and an RBI single in the eighth.

Bonderman gave up seven runs over four innings in his last start vs. the Twins and today was touched up for nine runs on six hits over 4 1/3.

The Orioles are now 3-4 on the year vs. the Tigers and are 14-4 in series-opening games under Showalter.

In game two of the twin bill, it’s Jeremy Guthrie (10-14, 3.98) against Rick Porcello (10-11, 5.01).
