Bell had a hit-and-run single in the second inning after Andino reached on an infield single. It was a nice piece of hitting, and an interesting call from manager Buck Showalter. Force Bell to swing the bat and show confidence that he’ll put the ball in play.

The Orioles are 10-4 when Corey Patterson starts a game as the designated hitter. You can look it up.

Chris Tillman lowered his home ERA from 9.47 to 7.27 in Game 1.

Jeremy Guthrie is 2-1 with a 3.42 ERA in four career starts against the Tigers. He’s 1-0 with a 5.25 ERA in two home starts.

Matt Wieters just threw out another runner trying to steal. It hasn’t gone unnoticed that his work behind the plate has improved tremendously as the season’s progressed.

The Tigers have already replaced their catcher in Game 2. Alex Avila has moved behind the plate after Jake Fox accidentally nailed Gerald Laird in the back while swinging through a pitch in the first inning.

Julio Lugo was charged with an error after failing to backhand Will Rhymes’ grounder in the third inning, but it’s doubtful that Lugo would have gotten the out with a clean pickup. Rhymes was busting it down the line (Busting Rhymes?)

The Orioles will announce their MVO tomorrow. Try to act surprised.

Update: The Orioles tacked on a big insurance run in the seventh on Julio Lugo’s RBI single. The Orioles have been a double play machine in this doubleheader, so Lugo’s hit was clutch.

Andino and Brandon Snyder singled before Lugo stepped to the plate. Andino is 3-for-3. Snyder is 2-for-3, raising his average to .300.

Snyder exhibited poor baserunning by holding at third base on Nick Markakis’ two-out single to center field. The Tigers were conceding the run.

Jeremy Guthrie is shutting out the Tigers on two hits over seven innings, with one walk and five strikeouts.
