After approaching the 2010 season without a distinct concept of what his role might be, Wigginton proved to be a big part of this year’s Orioles team.

Wigginton wound up playing 154 of the Birds’ 162 games and finished the season with a .248 average at the plate; his 76 RBI led the team, while his 22 homers put him second only to Luke Scott and his 29 doubles tied him with…The latest Oriole who needs your help in the voting is this year’s Heart & Hustle Award nominee, Ty Wigginton.

Wigginton wound up playing 154 of the Birds’ 162 games and finished the season with a .248 average at the plate; his 76 RBI led the team, while his 22 homers put him second only to Luke Scott and his 29 doubles tied him with Scott for second (behind Nick Markakis’ 45) on the O’s roster.

Wigginton also served as the O’s All-Star representative this season.

So it’s not a big surprise that Wigginton was named as the O’s nominee for the 2010 Heart & Hustle Award, which is given by the MLBPAA to the player “who demonstrates a passion for the game of baseball and best embodies the game’s values, spirit, and traditions.”

The award was created by the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association in 2005 and is voted on by alumni and active Major Leaguers. Fan voting also represents 5% of the total vote, so make sure you click here to cast your ballot for Ty Wigginton (up to 10 times a day!) between now and Thursday, November 4.

The winner will be presented with his award on Friday, November 5 at the 11th Annual Legends for Youth Dinner in New York City. The dinner is the MLBPAA’s primary fundraiser for their free ‘Legends for Youth Baseball Clinics’, which extend the gift of baseball to more than 5,000 children each year.
