Reliever Frank Mata cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk. He’s taken off the 40-man roster to make room for pitcher Jason Berken, who was reinstated from the 60-day disabled list.

Catcher Caleb Joseph, who spent the summer at Double-A Bowie, hit a double into right-center field yesterday that looked like it would produce two runs for the Scottsdale Scorpions. But his Baysox teammate, Ryan Adams, and Bryce Harper were tagged out at home plate. Almost simultaneously.

Apparently, Adams went back to tag up and Harper caught up to him. The Surprise catcher was, well, surprised that both runners arrived at the same time.
