The A’s submitted the winning posting bid, according to an MLB release issued earlier today. They have 30 days to negotiate exclusively with him.

Iwakuma had a 2.82 ERA in 201 innings this year. The Orioles scouted him, but the reports apparently weren’t favorable enough for the club to enter the bidding.

Also, former bullpen coach Alan Dunn has accepted the job as a roving pitching instructor in the organization. He’ll concentrate mainly on the hurlers from the Single-A to Triple-A levels and work with minor league pitching coordinator Dave Schmidt.

The Orioles are stockpiling instructors.

Dunn will make sure that the instruction at these levels matches what’s being done with the Orioles.

“I’m looking forward to it,” he said. “Obviously, I’m grateful for the opportunity to stay in the organization and I think there’s some good things that are happening here.

“I’m also looking forward to working with Dave Schmidt, who’s going to be doing things from Aberdeen down through the Gulf Coast League. We’ll be working together, as well, as far as making sure the transition is going smoothly from top to bottom.”

Former manager Dave Trembley believes that Dunn would make an excellent pitching coach. Maybe this is one of the steps.

Meanwhile, does anyone think that the delay in Juan Samuel officially becoming third base coach has something to do with the coaching vacancy in Philadelphia? I’ve had that theory floated past me today.
