Sarfate became a minor league free agent and declined a chance to stay in the Orioles’ organization after they failed to purchase his contract during the summer. He went 2-2 with a 2.73 ERA and 20 saves with Triple-A Norfolk, striking out 72 in 56 innings.
Sarfate, acquired from the Astros in the Miguel Tejada trade on Dec. 12, 2007, is 5-4 with a 4.53 ERA in 92 major league games. The Orioles removed him from the 40-man roster over the winter.
