Not much to report here, but I’m asked about the first base situation multiple times a day.
It happened again this afternoon while I was stuck in traffic on Rt. 32 and cars were blocking the Liberty Rd. intersection and preventing me from going the last half-mile to my house. (A Sun photographer captured the scene, which included my reddening face.)

A guy in the vehicle next to my rolled down his window, shouted out my name and asked if the Orioles were going to sign Adam LaRoche. I smiled and shrugged my shoulders. Then I returned my gaze to the traffic jam and broadened my vocabulary.
Honestly, I don’t know whether the Orioles will sign LaRoche or Derrek Lee, or sign a designated hitter and perhaps move Luke Scott to first base. I don’t know whether Boog Powell will untie his apron and make a comeback.
I can tell you that the club hasn’t made a formal offer to LaRoche or the other free-agent first basemen, according to a team official.
We could be dealing in semantics here. I’m sure the parameters of a deal were discussed with LaRoche’s representative at the winter meetings, but that doesn’t count as a formal offer.
Update: MASN’s Jen Royle tweeted earlier today that the Orioles have offered another infielder, Nick Green, a minor league deal with a spring training invite, and the veteran is still deciding whether to accept it. He might want to check the infield landscape and keep looking. It’s getting a bit crowded.
