MASN, the television home of the Orioles and Nationals, has announced that well-known Mid-Atlantic sports journalist Pete Kerzel has joined the network as full-time managing editor of MASNsports.com. Kerzel will begin shaping and overseeing sports news coverage at MASN beginning on Monday, January 3, 2011.
A creative, jovial, team-oriented professional, Kerzel will lead MASN’s Nationals and Orioles reporters and bloggers, as well as network talent to strengthen MASN’s news gathering and…MASN, the television home of the Orioles and Nationals, has announced that well-known Mid-Atlantic sports journalist Pete Kerzel has joined the network as full-time managing editor of MASNsports.com. Kerzel will begin shaping and overseeing sports news coverage at MASN beginning on Monday, January 3, 2011.
A creative, jovial, team-oriented professional, Kerzel will lead MASN’s Nationals and Orioles reporters and bloggers, as well as network talent to strengthen MASN’s news gathering and reporting operation online.
Kerzel, a freelance writer for The Associated Press since 1981 has covered hundreds of games of the mid-Atlantic region’s professional teams, including the Orioles, Nationals, Ravens, Wizards, Capitals, and D.C. United, as well as local college football and basketball. Most recently, he penned an Oriole-centric blog for PressBox and PressBoxOnline.com and provided Orioles coverage for CSNBaltimore.com.
“We are excited that Pete is bringing his extensive experience, positive attitude, and editorial judgment to our MASN team,” said MASN spokesman Todd Webster. “His decades of experience covering Washington and Baltimore sports will be a great asset to MASN’s expanding news presence.”
Kerzel’s career includes stints as the award-winning editor of the Catonsville Times and Arbutus Times, two Patuxent Publishing Co. weekly newspapers. His work has appeared in national publications such as The Sporting News, The Hockey News, Soccer America, Baseball Weekly, Sports Ticker, Journal of Commerce and on The Canadian Press, as well as ESPN.com, SportingNews.com, MLB.com and AOL CityGuide.
