Cal Ripken passed along the following comment regarding former teammate Roberto Alomar’s election into the baseball Hall of Fame:
“I was happy and excited to see that Robbie was elected to the Hall of Fame. He is one of the most talented guys I ever played with and against. He was great at the plate and in the field and made plays at second base that I never saw anyone else make. Congratulations to Roberto. I look forward to welcoming him to Cooperstown.”

For anyone who questions whether Alomar is worthy of induction, I’ll point out that he’s a 12-time All-Star, a 10-time Gold Glove winner and a four-time Silver Slugger Award winner. He finished in the Top 10 in MVP voting on five occasions. He finished among the top 10 AL leaders in stolen bases six times, and the NL leaders once. He’s a career .300 hitter in 17 seasons. He also was named MVP of the 1992 ALCS and 1998 All-Star Game.
He should have been inducted last year.
