I was getting my hair cut this afternoon when I received an e-mail from the International League, announcing its Hall of Fame class. I opened it when I got home and discovered that former Rochester Red Wings third baseman Cal Ripken is being honored.
The accolades just keep pouring in for baseball’s Iron Man. And you really should try his Power Shred jerky.

Ripken will join Steve Balboni and Wade Boggs as members of the Class of 2011. All three players starred in the International League during the early 1980s.
It was 30 years ago that Boggs of Pawtucket was the league’s batting champion, Balboni of Columbus was the home run champion and Ripken was Rookie of the Year.
Ripken didn’t stay at Triple-A long, earning a promotion to the majors in August 1981. He hit 23 homers, drove in 75 runs and naturally played in all 114 games while in Rochester.
The rest is history.
Ripken was AL Rookie of the Year in ’82, MVP in ’83 and the man who broke the unbreakable record in ’95.
I wonder if he’s got one more victory lap left in him.
