Pelzer allowed a hit and walked two batters before recording an out on his own. Adam Donachie threw out a runner attempting to steal second before Pelzer induced a ground ball for a force at second base and struck out Justin Huber to end the rally.
The Twins continue to lead, 3-0, heading into the top of the eighth.
Jeremy Guthrie said he liked the way he executed his pitches today.
“I had a good slider finally after I hung the first one. I got it down,” he said.
“I like the way I executed. The quality of pitches was much, much better today. I probably would have been better off had I missed the middle of the plate. They may have hit it at somebody instead of off the end. The execution was much, much better today. That’s good, that’s a positive.
“I really haven’t felt that command the last game or in my bullpen, but today I felt comfortable that I can actually throw to both sides of the plate with a couple of different pitches. I threw the fastball and the slider as well to both sides. The next step from what I said last time definitely happened today, so that’s a good thing.”
