SARASOTA, Fla. – The Pirates scored the last two runs on Josh Rodriguez’s homer off left-hander Mark Hendrickson in the ninth inning. Too little, too late.
Orioles 11, Pirates 7.
The Orioles didn’t announce any more cuts tonight, but you can probably figure out which veterans have been informed that they’re not going to make the team.

On Jake Arrieta:
“I was real happy with his tempo and his times to the plate from the stretch, something he’s worked on. I thought his stuff was crisp. Had a lot of close, borderline pitches that could have gone either way.”
On Dan Klein:
“Impressed with Klein. Can see why Joe (Jordan) and our scouts thought so much of him. That’s an encouraging young pitcher for us.”
Showalter was impressed with Klein’s curveball. He reminded the former third-round pick to back up third base and the plate, joking that Klein must not have needed to do it much at UCLA.
On Mark Reynolds:
“He and Jimmy (Presley) spent some time together this morning. I thought he was a lot more compact. He’s got quick hands. Trying not to jump out there so much and not commit himself early.”
Matt Wieters will DH tomorrow in Fort Myers.
I’ll return to Hammond Stadium to watch Brad Bergesen face the Twins. Jim Johnson and Clay Rapada also are scheduled to pitch. Scott Baker is starting for Minnesota.
