ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Brian Matusz dominated the news today, but in case you were wondering, manager Buck Showalter didn’t have any updates on Justin Duchscherer, who saw a chiropractor on Wednesday because of back discomfort.
Maybe it’s contagious.
“I know Richie (Bancells) and them were getting their arms around a plan of attack, so to speak,” Showalter said. “Nothing really new, but I may have something afterward.”

Maybe it’s contagious.
“I know Richie (Bancells) and them were getting their arms around a plan of attack, so to speak,” Showalter said. “Nothing really new, but I may have something afterward.”
Showalter and his training staff were too busy trying to schedule an MRI for Matusz to concentrate on anything else.
“That put a damper on everything, didn’t it?” Showalter asked. “We’ll be fine. It’s part of it.”
Matusz needs to get rid of the black cloud that somehow followed him inside the dome at Tropicana Field.
Showalter tried to find a silver lining with Matusz, pointing out that the biceps wasn’t an issue and the left-hander was able to work on some things in spring training.
“He had a pretty good spring, all things considered,” Showalter said. “He’s gotten his moves to an area where he could hold runners a little bit, he got quicker to the plate, a lot of things we wanted to attack. He was feeling good. But because it’s delayed doesn’t mean it’s denied. Half full.”
Update: Duchscherer will be shut down for about five days after an MRI didn’t reveal anything significant in his back.
