masn-baseballs-orioles.jpgI’m still not a huge fan of Twitter, though I know it’s necessary in this day and age and it’s slowly winning me over, but it’s become a convenient tool for tracking Jeremy Guthrie’s health.

Guthrie just, yes, tweeted the following: “Just got cleared to play short distance catch today by team Dr…yeeaa! Will take things slowly this week and see how body reacts.”

My question is, how slowly? The good news, of course, is that Guthrie is out of the hospital and feeling much better.

Brad Bergesen is taking Guthrie’s turn tonight, and he threw 18 pitches in a scoreless first inning. He walked Will Rhymes with one out, but Magglio Ordonez lined into an 8-3 double play.

Adam Jones charged the ball and made the catch, and Rhymes stood on second as Jones lobbed a throw to first baseman Derrek Lee.

We’ve had the expected drop in attendance from Monday’s home opener. Lots and lots of empty seats.

Update: The Orioles made one error in their first four games. They committed two in the second inning tonight, leading to two unearned runs.

Brian Roberts mishandled a pop up in shallow right field and Bergesen fired a pickoff throw into center field. Both miscues happened with two outs, and Alex Avila took advantage with a two-run double off the out-of-town scoreboard in right.

Bergesen’s pitch count jumped to 50.

Justin Verlander has retired the first six batters. He’s 5-0 with a 2.52 ERA lifetime against the Orioles.
