Brad Bergesen has been optioned to Triple-A Norfolk, and Chris Jakubauskas takes his place on the 25-man roster after having his contract purchased this morning.

The Orioles didn’t need a corresponding move involving the disabled list because Jakubauskas wasn’t on the 40-man roster.

Jakubauskas most likely will start tomorrow against the Rangers, with Jeremy Guthrie pushed back to Tuesday in New York. However,…The Orioles didn’t wait until the conclusion of Game 1 to make a roster move.

The Orioles didn’t need a corresponding move involving the disabled list because Jakubauskas wasn’t on the 40-man roster.

Jakubauskas most likely will start tomorrow against the Rangers, with Jeremy Guthrie pushed back to Tuesday in New York. However, that plan would change if Jakubauskas is needed in relief today, with the Orioles facing at least 18 innings of baseball.

Bergesen figured something was up earlier today, and he got the news shortly before manager Buck Showalter met with reporters. Bergesen made one start, allowing four runs (two earned) in 3 2/3 innings Wednesday night against the Tigers. He posted a 5.82 ERA in spring training and took a line drive off his right forearm.

Bergesen is expected to start Monday at Gwinnett.

Jakubauskas tossed 6 1/3 scoreless innings this spring, allowing four hits, walking one and striking out seven.

Jakubauskas, 32, is a nice comeback story. He made only one start in the majors last year, going on the disabled list with the Pirates after being hit on the head by a Lance Berkman line drive. He appeared in 35 games with the Mariners in 2009, going 6-7 with a 5.32 ERA.

Also, J.J. Hardy is slated to start Game 2 of today’s doubleheader. He hasn’t played since being scratched Thursday night because of tightness below his left ribcage area.

Showalter will check with Brian Roberts after Game 1 before deciding whether to also start the second baseman in Game 2.
