Delmarva Shorebirds infielder Jonathan Schoop, a 19-year-old from Curacao, takes a seven-game hitting streak into tonight’s game at Augusta.
Schoop, who went 3-for-4 with 4 RBI last night, is batting .467 during the streak with 14 hits over 30 at bats and just three strikeouts in that stretch. His play has been a bit overshadowed by Manny Machado’s South Atlantic League rookie season, but the youngster is off to a good start. He is second on the club in batting and slugging.

His play has been a bit overshadowed by Manny Machado’s South Atlantic League rookie season, but the youngster is off to a good start. He is second on the club in batting and slugging.
By the way, his name is pronounced “scope.”
Machado’s bat has cooled a bit. He is 0-for-8 over his last two games and is batting .207 at 6-for-29 over his past seven games.
The Frederick Keys split a doubleheader today with Potomac by winning the opener 6-1 and then losing in game two 8-4 at home. Nate Moreau allowed just one run over six innings to get the game one win and is now 2-0 with an ERA of 3.60.
Dan Klein pitched a scoreless seventh inning and now has an ERA of 2.08. Over 8 2/3, Klein, last year’s third-round draft pick from UCLA, has allowed two runs with two walks, 11 strikeouts and a .188 batting average against.
In game two, DJ Ferguson gave up three runs over 2 2/3 to take the loss in his Keys’ debut. Tyler Kolodny had two hits and scored twice for Frederick, which is now 5-6.
On another note, the Keys have officially filed their paperwork with Frederick city to try and win the right to lease Harry Grove Stadium in 2012. A group headed by Peter Kirk has also filed a request for proposal with the city of Frederick. City officials are expected to decide which proposal to accept over the next six weeks.
