* Jeremy Hellickson tonight proved the statement that momentum is as good as tonight’s starting pitcher to be true in baseball. So much for the celebration of last night and the Orioles coming into Tampa Bay off a three-game sweep.
* The Orioles fall to 5-9 on the year versus the American League East and 3-4 against the Rays. They have lost five straight division games.
* Buck Showalter has now sat Mark Reynolds out for one game and now dropped him to ninth in the order without getting any results. Reynolds tonight went 1-for-3 and did have an infield hit. But he has just one hit over his last 17 at-bats and is hitting just .132 (10-for-76) over his past 25 games.
*The Orioles got a fourth straight excellent outing from a starting pitcher and they tied their season-high by getting a fourth quality start in a row. O’s starters have an ERA of 1.86 over the past four games with six earned runs and 17 hits allowed over a 29-inning stretch.
*The Orioles’ offense has scored three or fewer runs now in eight of the last 11 games and 20 times on the season and the Orioles are 3-17 in those games.
*In seven games this year versus Tampa pitching, the Orioles have scored 19 runs and have a team batting average of .191 against the Rays’ staff.
