Matusz will be extended to 75-80 pitches in his next start on Saturday. The Orioles haven’t decided whether he’ll join Triple-A Norfolk or Double-A Bowie.

Justin Duchscherer will go three innings Wednesday in a simulated game in Sarasota, and four innings in the next…ST. Norfolk catcher Craig Tatum was eligible to come off the seven-day disabled list yesterday, but he still felt some discomfort in his right shoulder while throwing from 120 feet yesterday. He could be activated later in the week.

Manager Buck Showalter hasn’t used his bullpen on this trip, so his relievers are fresh.

“It’s funny how it changes in two days time,” he said. “Now you’ve got to get some guys some work or something. I hope we don’t. We’re in good shape.”

The Orioles have gotten back-to-back complete games from Jeremy Guthrie and Brad Bergesen.

“They’ve kind of answered the challenge to get deeper into games,” Showalter said, “and when you consider the opposition the last two games, it’s pretty impressive.”

Bergesen and backup catcher Jake Fox were in sync throughout yesterday’s game.

“Jake had a really good game. They were on the same page. Really dictated the tempo to the hitters, too. He caught Bergy before. They had an idea,” Showalter said.

Fox originally was credited with a caught-stealing at third base while Mark Reynolds was charged with an error for dropping the throw, but the official scorer changed it and took away Fox’s CS.

“They took the caught stealing away? So how did they score it an error? That’s not possible,” Showalter said.

“If you do one, you’ve got to do the other. I’ve got to think that one through. I could be wrong.

“Isn’t it funny how players don’t ask you to talk to official scorers about that, but they do about a hit?”

We’re still waiting for Reynolds’ pop up to land after it hit the B ring in foul territory.

“It’s going to come down about the third inning today. It still would hurt,” Showalter said.

“I’m sure that’s not the first time something strange happened up here in the roof, or the last. The ball’s dead. Can’t catch it, by the way.”
