The rotation has recorded six consecutive quality starts, posting a 1.64 ERA in 44 innings and averaging 7.1 innings per start. Now it’s Chris Tillman’s turn.
In Tillman’s seven starts this year, the Orioles have scored nine runs while he was in the game, including four in his last outing on May 11 against the Seattle Mariners. The Orioles haven’t scored while he was in the game in three of his seven starts.
Last year, the Orioles gave Tillman two runs or fewer while he was in the game nine times in 12 starts.
Of the 23 runs allowed by Tillman this season, 15 have scored in the first two innings. Tillman hasn’t allowed a home run in his last four starts, setting a career-high.
The Orioles are 6-7 in series-opening games this year and 20-11 in series openers since Buck Showalter took over as manager August 3, 2010.
The Orioles are seeking their 20th victory after not winning their 20th game last year until June 24. They’re looking for their 10th road win after not picking up their 10th road victory of 2010 until July 8.
J.J. Hardy is 10-for-24 with two homers, seven RBIs, two walks and two runs scored since coming off the disabled list on Tuesday.
In his last 13 games since May 2, Adam Jones is batting .389 (21-for-54) with eight RBIs. He’s batting .440 (11-for-25) with four extra-base hits in his last six games.
Matt Wieters is 6-for-11 with two doubles, a home run and five RBis lifetime against Daisuke Matsuzaka.
