And, after giving up 17 runs in Friday’s loss, the Orioles beat the Nationals today 2-1 at Camden Yards in front of 33,626 to come back and win this series, two games to one. The game ended on a strike-’em-out, throw-’em-out double play as Matt Wieters caught pinch runner Brian Bixler trying to steal.

After Chris Tillman gave up just one run and six hits over five innings, the ‘pen combined to pitch four shutout innings and…This time, the Orioles’ bullpen did not give up the lead.

After Chris Tillman gave up just one run and six hits over five innings, the ‘pen combined to pitch four shutout innings and preserve the lead and win. Jeremy Accardo pitched the sixth, Jim Johnson the seventh, Koji Uehara the eighth and Kevin Gregg the ninth. It was Gregg’s eighth save in 11 chances.

After the Orioles were shut out on just one hit through six by Jordan Zimmerman, they broke through to get the lead in the last of the seventh. Nick Markakis led off with a single, snapping a run of 13 in a row retired by the Nats’ right-hander. Then Vlad Guerrero lined an 0-2 pitch into the left-field seats for his fifth homer and a 2-1 edge.

It was Guerrero’s first homer since April 28, ending a 19-game stretch without one. All five of his homers on the season have come at Camden Yards.

Tillman pitched out of several jams today and while his final stats were good – allowing just the one run over five innings – he needed 97 pitches to get that far.

Over his last three starts, Tillman’s ERA is just 1.13 on two earned runs over 16 innings. He has allowed one earned run or less in five of his nine starts on the season.

The Orioles improve to 5-1 in their last six games versus Washington and 21-24 on the season. After Monday’s off day, the Orioles host K.C. for a three-game series that begins Tuesday night.
