After being shut out on just 28 pitches by Luke Hochevar through three innings tonight, the Orioles scored eight runs in the fourth inning, by far their biggest inning of the year.
They had six hits in the inning and sent 13 men to the plate. The previous biggest outburst in one inning on the year was a five-run inning in the seventh on April 7 versus Detroit.
It was the O’s biggest inning since they got eight in one frame against Washington on June 26, 2009. In the uprising, five different Orioles drove in runs.
Hochevar was not replaced during the inning and actually stayed in the game and pitched through the seventh. He falls to 3-5 with an ERA of 4.81.
Jake Arrieta threw 46 pitches in the first two innings, but got the win, going 6-2 with an ERA of 4.57 by pitching six innings of five-hit, two-run ball.
At 23-24, now the Orioles have won four in a row to match a season-best and can get back to .500 with a win tomorrow. They were last there when they were 13-13 on May 1.
In the series finale, it’s Jeremy Guthrie (2-6, 3.45) against Jeff Francis (1-5, 4.23). In five home starts, Guthrie is 1-3 with a 2.90 ERA.
