Here’s what Mike Gonzalez said about his eight-pitch relief stint today:
“It felt good. Every day it’s getting a little better. Obviously it was a great idea for me to come out here and throw. I was able to get treatment right before the game and after the game, instead of going to Clearwater. It’s coming along. It’s just progressing, a couple days from feeling nothing. I was able to get out in front, and that was the big thing for me, getting my release out there without any pain. I’m pain-free right now and I’m progressing.
“It was more about testing my back than anything, more than the (number of) pitches. Just testing to see how my back felt, and I obviously passed the test. I’m happy about that.”
Gonzalez will throw another inning on Sunday.
