Here are some of his comments:

“I don’t think I did a good job out there. Falling behind too many hitters. Watch on video and the hits I gave up were all balls out over the plate (and) up. That’s what a good-hitting team does, they hit those pitches. The last two outings I haven’t executed well and those are the…Zach Britton met with reporters after tonight’s 8-4 loss to the Blue Jays. “When you throw the sinker up out over the plate, it’s not going to sink, obviously. It’s just about being able to get the ball down and make better pitches when you need to make pitches. It comes down to one pitch today, that grand slam. Just being able to execute better in that situation, I think that turns the game. Obviously, I wasn’t able to do it and that cost us the game.”

Zach Britton explains why his command was off in the 8-4 loss the Toronto

“It comes down to throwing strikes, not trying to give in. Escobar there, I thought that pitch was kind of close. But when you’re not throwing strikes, you’re not going to get those borderline pitches. It comes down to throwing strikes, getting ahead of hitters and staying ahead of hitters.”

Talking about the grand slam, Britton said, “It was down where I wanted to. If he doesn’t swing, I think it hits the ground. If you watch that at-bat, he wasn’t able to hit those pitches down-and-away when I threw it there. That last pitch kind of cut on me a little bit and ran right on his bat. He did a good job. He hit that ball very hard for where it was. But I think if I make a better pitch, we get out of that inning.”

“It’s really two bad outings. I don’t consider it a rough patch. It’s just two bad outings. You’re going to have bad outings. I had bad outings in the minors. I had three bad outings at Triple-A last year that I can remember off the top of my head, so it’s going to happen. It’s just a matter of bouncing back and not letting it turn into three, four, five bad outings. Just going out there in my next start against Oakland and making sure I’m pounding the strike zone with strikes, getting ahead of hitters.”

“It comes down to command, no matter what. I think my stuff’s fine. It comes down to executing pitches. They can see me 10 times, but if I execute my pitches, I should do well.”
