Justin Duchscherer left today’s extended spring training game in the third inning with a sore hip, yet another setback that reduces that chances that he’ll pitch for the Orioles this season.
Duchscherer went four innings in his last outing and was supposed to go five today, but he didn’t make it. The Orioles would have considered sending him on an injury rehab assignment if he had completed his start.

Also, former third-round pick Brandon Erbe (McDonogh) cut short his throwing today at extended spring training because of soreness in his surgically repaired right shoulder.
Erbe underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum on Aug. 13.
Matt Hobgood tweeted the following earlier today (@Matt_Hobgood48): “Just had another good live BP today, arm felt great. Couldn’t ask for anything else. Feeling healthy is awesome #blessed”
Draft update: The Orioles took a local kid in the 14th round: John Carroll third baseman Kevin Hockaday.
The Orioles also selected Illinois catcher Adam Davis in the 11th round, TCU left fielder Jason Coats in the 12th round, Washington State right fielder Derek Jones in the 13th, Central Arizona College left-hander Eric Wooten in the 15th and Temple right-hander Mark Blackmar in the 16th.
Baseball America listed Coats as a third- or fourth-round talent among corner outfielders.
