Klein underwent an MRI yesterday in Baltimore that didn’t show anything conclusive, according to a team official. Klein still has soreness in the shoulder, which prevented him from throwing over the weekend while the Baysox were on the road.
Klein was officially placed on the seven-day minor league disabled list on June 8 with shoulder tendinitis after the Orioles shut him down. The MRI was scheduled as a precaution, but Klein’s symptoms remain.
The Orioles wanted Klein to pitch three innings in his next outing and move up to Triple-A Norfolk, but those plans were shelved.
Klein is regarded as one of the top prospects in the organization. He’s a combined 3-1 with a 1.11 ERA between Single-A Frederick and Bowie, with six walks and 37 strikeouts in 32 1/3 innings.
Game updates: In the first three innings, Nick Markakis ran into an out and second baseman Robert Andino committed a throwing error on an attempted double play that allowed the go-ahead run to score for Toronto. The Blue Jays lead, 2-1.
J.J. Hardy doubled in the third inning. Sign that guy to an extension.
I love that Luke Scott reached on a bunt single in the fourth inning against the Blue Jays’ infield shift. With nobody playing third base, it’s there whenever he wants to do it. Well, if he doesn’t pop it up.
Also, Bowie’s Brandon Waring hit his ninth home run, and his fifth in the last six games.
