The Orioles scored three runs in the fifth inning off Boston starter Josh Beckett, the first on Derrek Lee’s leadoff homer.

Nick Markakis and Adam Jones had RBI singles, but Vladimir Guerrero stranded two runners by striking out.

Brad Bergesen was diagnosed with a bruised right forearm. He also took a liner off his arm in an exhibition game this spring. And we’ll never forget Billy Butler’s shot off his shin on July 30, 2009.

Update: Dustin Pedroia is a high fastball hitter. The Orioles have fed him high fastballs the last two nights. Pedroia has homered the last two nights.
Pedroia cleared the Green Monster against Chris Jakubauskas in the sixth inning, and manager Buck Showalter went to his bullpen again, bringing in left-hander Michael Gonzalez.
Red Sox 9, Orioles 3.
Jakubauskas only worked 1 1/3 innings. Maybe Showalter is saving him for long relief tomorrow night.
Down on the farm, Manny Machado hit his second home run for Single-A Frederick.
