Two postgame concerts announced featuring Nelly (May 9) & “I Love the 90s” (August 21) with Vanilla Ice, Tone Loc, Tag Team, and Treach
The Orioles today announced the return of the Birdland Summer Music Series, presented by CFG Bank, with two postgame concerts: rap artist, NELLY, following the 4:05 p.m. game on Saturday, May 9, against the Athletics, and an “I Love the 90s” concert featuring VANILLA ICE, TONE LOC, TAG TEAM, and TREACH of Naughty by Nature following the 7:05 p.m. game on Friday, August 21, against the Tampa Bay Rays.
All fans attending the games on May 9 and August 21 are invited to stay postgame to enjoy the concerts. Tickets for these games are available now at Orioles.com/Tickets. Fans interested in purchasing on-field passes to enjoy the postgame concerts from the infield dirt can purchase passes at Orioles.com/Music. A limited number of on-field passes are available.
For decades, NELLY has connected generations with his exuberant anthems, fusing musical genres and engaging in multiple entertainment mediums including music, television, and film. The diamond-selling, multi-platinum, 3x Grammy award-winning rap superstar, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and actor Nelly has continuously raised the bar for the entertainment industry since stepping on the scene in 2000 with his distinctive vocals and larger-than-life personality.
The iconic VANILLA ICE exploded on the rap/pop music scene in 1990/1991, selling 10 million albums in four months and hitting number one on the Billboard charts with the number one single, “Ice Ice Baby,” and number one album positions. His worldwide album sales are over 25 million, and individual songs total over 160 million and are still selling. Vanilla Ice won two MTV Awards, a People’s Choice Award, and was nominated for a Grammy.
TONE LOC soared from obscurity into pop stardom in 1989 when his hoarse voice and unmistakable delivery made the song “Wild Thing” a massive hit, winning Grammys and countless other awards. The song “Wild Thing” was co-written by Marvin Young, better known as Young MC, as was the second single smash, “Funky Cold Medina.” The album “Loc-ed After Dark” became the second rap release ever to top the pop charts and one of the most popular of all time.
TAG TEAM introduced their debut single “Whoomp! (There It Is).” just prior to the summer of 1993. Not too long afterward, DC Glenn (DC the Brain Supreme) and Steve Gibson (Steve Rolln) were No. 1 on the Billboard R&B chart and at the top of the Billboard sales chart. They sat atop every global chart for the next two years, and the Denver, Col., natives who relocated to Atlanta, Ga., were on top of the world. They became a familiar force in the music business spanning every continent, bringing a worldwide appreciation of music from the south.
TREACH is the front man of the multi-platinum selling rap trio Naughty by Nature that took the world by storm in the early ‘90s. Treach worked with fellow group members Vin Rock and DJ Kay Gee. Sometimes he would share verses on songs with Vin Rock, but often, especially on the group’s earlier albums, Treach would be the sole performer on the song. Naughty by Nature pulled off the neat trick of landing big, instantly catchy anthems on the pop charts while maintaining their street level credibility among the hardcore rap faithful, one of the first groups to perform such a balancing act. Discovered by Queen Latifah, Naughty by Nature are probably best known for their massive international hit song, “O.P.P,” which was released in 1991 off their self-titled second offering, “Naughty by Nature.” The song peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. “Hip-Hop Hooray” was another hit song in which Spike Lee directed the video for the song. The group’s second album also spawned the hit song “Everything’s Gonna be Alright.” The group released their third and fourth albums, both of which peaked at No. 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Charts and produced hit singles that kept the group’s popularity high. Their album “Poverty’s Paradise” garnered the group a Grammy Award in 1996 for ‘Best Rap Album.’
