Jeremy Guthrie retired the first two batters on fly balls to left field, but Torii Hunter doubled and Bobby Abreu followed with a single.

The Angels have scored nine runs in this series, all of them coming with two outs.

Guthrie had retired seven batters in a row, the last six on fly balls. Nick Markakis handled three of them in the second inning.

Hunter doubled off the center field…It happened again today.

Hunter doubled off the center field fence and barely slid into second ahead of Robert Andino’s tag. Adam Jones played the carom perfectly and made a strong throw. And Hunter either was slow out of the box or he’s lost more than one step.

The Orioles have hit into two double plays today and are tied for the American League lead.

Angels starter Tyler Chatwood has thrown only 23 pitches in three innings.

Today’s temperature is 99 degrees, which qualifies as a cooling trend after 104 and 102 for the first two games of this series.

Update: The Angels scored twice in the fourth to increase their lead to 3-0, and the last run crossed the plate with, yes, two outs.

Guthrie walked Alberto Callaspo to open the inning and Howie Kendrick doubled to put runners on second and third for Mark Trumbo, who lifted a sacrifice fly. Mike Trout flied out, but Guthrie walked Bobby Wilson and gave up a double to Maicer Izturis.

Izturis’ ball took a high bounce over Derrek Lee’s head, but that’s not the only reason Guthrie is annoyed. Plate umpire Todd Tichenor’s strike zone is the size of a peach pit, and Guthrie is visibly upset with it.

Guthrie questioned how his last pitch to Wilson was called a ball, which extended the inning and led to Izturis’ double. And that’s not the only time that Tichenor has squeezed Guthrie today.
