Chris Tillman retired the first six Yankees on just 24 pitches today with four strikeouts. But New York scored eight runs over its next three at bats this afternoon to beat the Orioles 8-3 in game one of a day-night doubleheader.

After the Orioles got RBI groundouts by Craig Tatum and J.J. Hardy to tie the game 2-2 in the top of the fourth, New York went ahead 5-2 in the last of the frame, which included a Nick Swisher two-run homer.
Tillman gave up eight hits and seven runs (five earned) over 4 1/3, throwing 80 pitches. He was making his first big league start since May 27 and falls to 2-4 with an ERA of 5.16. Bartolo Colon gave up two runs over five frames to get the win.
Mark Reynolds, who entered this series with just one homer over his last 19 games, hit his second homer of the series, a solo shot in the eighth. It’s his 23rd on the year. Reynolds went 2-for-4 after going 3-for-27 over his previous eight games.
The Orioles fall to 1-7 on the year against the Yankees and have lost 21 of their past 26 games in New York. They fall to 42-61 on the year and 13-27 versus AL East clubs.
The Yankees are now 62-42 with nine wins in their last 14 games. They improved to 35-22 at home and are 18-6 in their past 24 games at home.
In tonight’s game, set for a 7 p.m. first pitch, Zach Britton will be officially recalled from Double-A Bowie to make the start. He is 6-7 with a 4.05 ERA on the year and will making his first big league start since giving up eight runs in 2/3 of an inning July 8 at Boston. Ivan Nova, who is 8-4 with a 4.12 ERA, will start for the Yankees.
