PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Zach Eflin makes his exhibition debut this afternoon against the Rays at Charlotte Sports Park.
Eflin has thrown live batting practice, getting multiple ups in preparation for today’s assignment and his attempts to make the Opening Day roster.
Samuel Basallo is catching Eflin. Dylan Beavers is leading off and playing right field.
Leody Taveras is in center field and Jeremiah Jackson gets the start at second base.
Most of the regulars stayed back in Sarasota.
Reliever Andrew Kittredge spoke earlier today about the right shoulder inflammation that’s expected to force him onto the injured list. He downplayed the severity, saying the shoulder began “barking” after his first appearance, and hopes to pitch in more games before the team breaks camp.
More on that later.
