SARASOTA – The Orioles are playing split-squad games today against the Yankees in Tampa and tonight against the Pirates in Sarasota.
Most of the regulars are wearing gray pants.
The A team is on the road, including shortstop Gunnar Henderson, making his return appearance after the World Baseball Classic.
Taylor Ward is leading off, with Henderson batting second. Pete Alonso is at first base, Adley Rutschman is catching, Tyler O’Neill is in right field, Ryan Mountcastle is the designated hitter, Coby Mayo is the third baseman and Colton Cowser is in center field.
Blaze Alexander is starting at second base after playing center field yesterday in Dunedin.
Looks a lot like the kind of lineup that the Orioles would post against an opposing left-handed starter such as New York’s Max Fried.
Dean Kremer is back from the World Baseball Classic and pitching in his first Grapefruit League game since Feb. 26. He shut out Team Netherlands over four innings in a March 3 exhibition and tossed 4 1/3 scoreless innings for Team Israel in the WBC.
Fried has allowed four runs, walked none and struck out 10 over 9 1/3 innings in his two exhibition appearances. The Orioles will see him during the regular season and apparently want to give their top guys some at-bats today.
